The event may be over but the legacy of the Nanjing 2014 Summer Youth Olympic Games lives on, Chinese officials claims, as residents of the the city continue to gain the benefit from the facilities used for the duration of the event.

The majority of the 35 venues used during the Games were first established ahead of the 2005 National Games in order to adhere to International Olympic Committee regulations regarding the Youth Olympic Games.

These facilities will continue to be used by the public in the wake of Nanjing 2014 giving top quality venues for use across the city.

Only the Youth Olympic Village, Sports Lab and Youth Olympic Sports Park were newly constructed ahead of the Games.

The Sports Lab was a venue designed to host the four demonstration sports at the Games - wushu, sport-climbing, skateboarding and roller skating - with this facility continue to function as it had during the event in order to increase the popularity of these sports for years to come.

The Sports Park was home to beach volleyball, hockey, rugby sevens and BMX during the Games and will also become a sport facility open to the public.

The Nanjing Olympic Museum, opened on August 17, will close for a short period before reopening to the public with an added exhibition based around the Youth Olympic Games.

A major project in the build up to the Youth Olympic Games was the hexi tram system, opened just days before the Games on August 13.

This transport service will continue to function alongside the Nanjing Metro system with its clean emission technology hoping to bring an environmental edge to the city.
