Salt Lake City Mayor Erin Mendenhall announced Celebrate 2034, a live watch party in downtown Salt Lake City on Monday, 8 July. The event will take place in Washington Square starting at 3:00am MDT, featuring live coverage from Paris on video boards, and is expected to attract thousands of visitors who will be camping out for the Days of ’47 Parade.

“Utahns young and old cherish the core memory of the 1995 celebration at Washington Square when we were awarded the 2002 Winter Games,” said Mayor Mendenhall. “It’s the foundation of our Olympic legacy, and I’m thrilled to celebrate another historic moment for Salt Lake City and Utah.”

The Celebrate 2034 watch party will offer a festive atmosphere with food trucks, free giveaways, and live coverage from Paris. The Utah Sports Commission is the primary partner, working with the City of Salt Lake City, Salt Lake City Chamber, Downtown Alliance, and Visit Salt Lake. KSL-TV will broadcast live from Paris and Salt Lake City, with Dragonfli Media Technologies handling the video displays.

SLC-UT 2034’s presentation to the IOC Session in Paris will begin at 3:00am MDT on 24 July, followed by the vote at 4:00am and the anticipated announcement at 4:20am. Video boards on the east side of the City-County Building will show the live coverage, and KSL-TV crews from Paris will provide on-site reporting. Downtown Salt Lake City buildings will be illuminated overnight in celebration.

“Utah is the State of Sport, and we are ready to welcome the world back for the 2034 Winter Games,” said Jeff Robbins, President and CEO of the Utah Sports Commission. “Join us for an early morning of fun and celebration on 24 July.”

The festivities will continue later in the day with an Olympic and Paralympic celebration from 4:00 to 9:00pm at Utah Olympic Park in Park City. The event will feature a festival with vendors, food, activities, and a meet-and-greet with athletes, as well as a Flying Ace All-Stars Freestyle Show at 6:30pm, and live music at 7:00pm.

Provo will also celebrate with an evening event at the Peaks Ice Arena on 24 July, featuring Zamboni photos, free public skating, athletes, and fireworks. In the Heber Valley, Charleston’s Pioneer Day festivities will include a special tribute with a flag-raising ceremony at 6:45am, followed by a parade at 6:30pm, live music, and fireworks.
